An allergy is an individual’s unique hypersensitivity to certain allergens
• A local reaction causes redness, swelling, and itching in one area
• A systemic reaction causes symptoms in one or more body systems
• Severe systemic reaction can cause anaphylaxis, which is life threatening

Sneezing is a sign of a local allergic reaction in mucous membranes of the nose.

It can be caused by pollen, mold, animal dander, or dust in the environment.
